What is a creative life?
A creative life is not just about making things- it’s about engaging the world with curiosity and imagination while making meaning. Creativity, like a portal, is a doorway to pass through into a different version of yourself. What waits on the other side is often a shift in perspective, beauty, a glimpse of truth, or a vision that wasn’t quite focused before. A creative life is how we connect and play with what matters, reimagine with intention what is possible, and build a life of meaning.
What do I mean?
This sort of work is about a space to discuss real feelings and the themes of our lives like isolation, purpose, anger, longing, and connection. I often assist in supporting people explore creatively emotion, identity, and meaning through creative, depth oriented therapy. Often these themes come up through the arts: lyric discussion, reflective journaling, songwriting prompts, metaphor, artful introspection, among others.
Who is this for?
This is for any person who wants more creativity in their life. This is for any person who craves self inquiry. It’s for the person who may feel as if they are missing something. Maybe there is a parent shaped hole. Maybe it is a way to be with the unknown. Maybe it is the easiest way to sit with a question that won’t go away.
Part of my own process has involved songwriting and creative work. I’ve found that sometimes music allows things to take shape that are difficult to put into words directly. It’s one way of paying attention to experience and making sense of it over time.
Below is an example of that process.
